Search Expands For Boat Wanted In Fatal Hit & Run; Reward For Info. May Increase

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– a 25-thousand dollar reward being offered by the Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever’s responsible for last Friday’s fatal boating accident on West Lake Okoboji may be on the way up again.

The crash claimed the life of a Perry dentist…51-year-old Michael Brosnahan…and seriously injured his wife…50-year-old Jill Brosnahan.

Steve Dulin of Arnolds Park was able to quickly raise 25-thousand dollars in reward money. If there are no new breaks in the case, Dulin says they’ll meet Wednesday to talk about the possibility of increasing the reward to 50-thousand dollars.

Meanwhile, Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources tells KUOO news the search has been expanded to neighboring states. He says law enforcement, marinas, and body shops that work on boats have all been notified to be on the lookout. Owen says the fact the search has been extended to neighboring states does NOT mean they’re giving up their search locally.

Owen says he’s had more than 30 tips each day in the case, but none of them have panned out so far. One of those he says is a call he received today (Monday) from Lincoln, Nebraska. He says police there are in the process of following up on it.

Owen urges anyone with any information at all, however minute, to contact him or the Dickinson County Communications Center at 336-2525. Again, the description of the boat they’re looking for is a predominantly white Runabout with two red stripes about six to eight inches wide and a foot apart. The boat is believed to be atleast 22 feet long.
