November 23, 2014

(Hartley)– Three Spencer men have been charged in connection with burglaries at the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn elementary and high schools.

The Hartley Police Department says officers on routine patrol interrupted a burglary early yesterday at the H-M-S High School. Upon investigating, police learned a burglary had also taken place at the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Elementary school.

Authorities say the investigation resulted in the arrests of 18-year-old Zachary Lewis and 18-year-old Adam Dean…both of Spencer. Both were charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree…a class “D” felony; and possession of a controlled substance…a serious misdemeanor.

Also arrested was 19-year-old Joe Bailey of Spencer. He was charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree. Bailey was arrested by the Spencer Police Department on O’Brien county warrants. He’s being held in the Clay county jail.

The Hartley Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Sanborn Police Department and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
