(Lake Park)– Vision Iowa funding is being requested to help fund construction of a combined city/school complex in Lake Park.
The Dickinson county board of supervisors today adopted a resolution supporting the grant application. Harris-Lake Park Superintendent Gary Richardson tells KUOO news they’ll be applying for a 1.75 million dollar grant through Vision Iowa’s Community Attractions and Tourism program. Richardson says it would help fund construction of a performing arts center and the athletic fields. A bond issue and local option sales tax proceeds would help pay for the remainder of the project. It would include a wellness center, community center, library and 7-12 or 9-12 school. The wellness center, community center and library would be funded jointly by the school and city of Lake Park. Richardson says the Harris-Lake Park school board is planning to hold a bond issue election some time in December. He says it would probably be in the amount of five million to five and-a-half million dollars.
The board of supervisors also today approved a motion to proceed with an engineering study on drainage in the area of the proposed building site. The Northwest Iowa Youth Athletic Association is being told to halt any further development of athletic fields until after that study is done.
