Schacherer To Retire As Director Of SL ILCC Campus

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A well known faculty member at the Spirit Lake campus of Iowa Lakes Community College will be stepping down this coming June 30th.

Aileen Schacherer will retire after nearly 10 and-a-half years with Iowa Lakes–nine of those as Director of the Spirit Lake campus.

Schacherer also worked for Iowa Lakes for five years back in the 1970’s.

Schacherer says she steps down with mixed emotions. She says the decision to accept an early retirement offer came with a lot of soul searching and prayer. Schacherer says she values the experiences she’s had working with students and the community. She says it’s been especially awarding to have witnessed the growth in attendance at the Spirit Lake attendance center. And Schacherer says seeing the new Spirit Lake attendance center come to fruition was also something she was very glad to have had a part in.

Even though she’ll be retiring, Schacherer says she’ll still be spending some time in the classrooms at Iowa Lakes Community College. She plans to do some part-time adjunct faculty teaching in social science courses and may also do some teaching in the nursing program. Schacherer says she also plans to enjoy the Iowa Great Lakes this summer and spend time with her 11 grandchildren.

The college’s board of trustees will act on Schacherer’s retirement resignation at their meeting later this month.
