Scam Operation Targets Senior Citizens

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A scam that appears to be targeting mainly senior citizens is making the rounds.

Officials say they’ve had several reports of letters being received, mainly by senior citizens, stating they’ve won a large amount of money in a sweepstakes or lottery. It requires them to fill out a form with personal information, including bank account numbers.

Officials say it’s a scam intended to drain the would-be victim’s bank account. They say if you get such a letter, or know of someone who has, to report it to authorities and NOT fill it out. Instead they say you should just simply throw it away.

Officials say you should never supply personal information such as your Social Security Number and bank account information to anyone you’re not familiar with.

There have been several reports of people in the area…most of them elderly…receiving such letters recently.
