(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against a Ruthven man for allegedly shooting a dog.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call shortly before 9:00 p.m. Saturday about a gunshot at the intersection of 330th Avenue and 380th Street. After visiting with the complaining party, it was determined the complaining party’s dog had been shot. Witnesses provided a deputy the description of a vehicle and license plate information. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and questioned. The owner said he was westbound on 380th Street and was turning north onto 330th Avenue when he saw the dog on the road. He stopped the vehicle. The owner said a passenger in the vehicle, Michael Bland of Ruthven, got out of the vehicle and shot the dog with a rifle.
Bland was booked into the Clay county jail on charges of criminal mischief in the third degree and animal abuse…both aggravated misdemeanors; and reckless use of a firearm…an aggravated misdemeanor. Bond was set at 19,500-dollars.
