Rural Terril Man Injured In Rollover

November 23, 2014

(Terril)– A rural Terril man was injured in a one-vehicle accident Tuesday evening southeast of Terril.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 47-year-old Patrick Matthews lost control of a 1976 Chevrolet pickup as he was traveling west on 250th Street. The vehicle went into the south ditch and rolled. It then became airborne for 21 feet, striking the ground and rolling again, becoming airborne a second time for 17 feet. The vehicle finally came to rest right-side-up. Matthews was ejected on the second roll, landing about 52 feet in front of the vehicle.

He was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare and was transferred by air to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City. Information on his condition wasn’t immediately available.

Matthews was charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control.

The pickup he was driving sustained an estimated 2,500-dollars in damage.

The crash took place shortly after 9:00 p.m.
