(Orleans)– One person was injured Thursday (11/08) in a car/pedestrian accident a half mile north of Orleans on 252nd Avenue.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 15-year-old Mykal Clayton of Orleans was southbound when she looked down to tend to a stereo. The vehicle she was driving crossed the center line…striking a pedestrian…52-year-old Mary Lou Riley of rural Spirit Lake. The vehicle continued into a ditch…striking a fire hydrant before coming to rest.
Riley was taken by ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. No injuries were reported to Clayton or a passenger in the vehicle…16-year-old Pia Raskvendelberg…a foreign exchange student.
Two-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1993 Pontiac van driven by Clayton. Damage to the fire hydrant was estimated at 150-dollars.
Clayton was charged with failure to have control.
The mishap took place shortly after 7:00 a.m.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Spirit Lake First Responders and Dickinson County Ambulance.
