Rock Valley House Fire Injures Three

November 23, 2014

(Rock Valley)– Officials say a space heater that ignited some combustible items in a dining room is the likely cause of a house fire Friday in Rock Valley that injured three people.

Firefighters found Jennipher Vanden Top in the yard near the house when they arrived at the scene around 11:00 a.m. Authorities say a nine-month old girl had already been taken to the hospital.

A four-year-old boy still inside the house was rescued by firefighters.

The mother and children were transferred by air to a hospital in Sioux Falls where they’re being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

Dave Schipper of the State Fire Marshall’s Office says there was considerable fire, smoke and water damage on the home’s main floor.

Vanden Top was reportedly in the basement doing laundry when the four-year-old boy yelled at her telling there was a fire.
