(Milford)– Relations between the Milford city council and the Milford Fire Department may be getting strained.
The city council Monday expressed its displeasure over the department ordering a new grass rig without first getting council approval. Fire Chief Don Eckard said they hadn’t been required to do that with other equipment they purchased in the past.
But council member Teresa Netsch says the requirement for council approval is nothing new…saying it’s needed because ultimately it involves city money. She admits the city may have been lax in enforcing the requirement in the past, but said that will change.
Emil Richter, a member of the Fire Department, expressed his frustration over the city council’s requirement…saying the other cities and townships the department serve don’t have such a requirement. He says they’re looking at establishing a fire district, which Richter says would take any future purchases completely out of the hands of the Milford city council.
After further discussion–some of it heated–the council voted unanimously to purchase the new truck, which has already been ordered.
