Ribbon Cutting Held On Spirit Lake School’s Second Wind Turbine

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A ribbon cutting was held this afternoon for the Spirit Lake School District’s second wind turbine. The 750 megawatt turbine is much larger than the first that powers just the elementary school. The newest one powers the rest of the district’s buildings.

Superintendent Tim Grieves says the new turbine cost the district about 780-thousand dollars. He estimates it will be paid off in seven years with money that would have otherwise been used to purchase electricity.

The second turbine went into operation at 7:45 a.m. Monday. After just two days of operation, Jim Tirevold, Director of Grounds and Maintenance, says the machine has already produced over 12-thousand kilowatts of electricity.
