(Arnolds Park)– Some revisions could be in the offing to a 28E agreement adopted several years ago that combined the Arnolds Park and Okoboji Fire Departments.
Arnolds Park City Administrator Ron Walker says he has concerns over liability and workman’s comp issues with the current arrangement, which he describes as little more than a “glorified mutual aid agreement”. He’s recommending the formation of a fire or public safety board to oversee the issues.
The proposal is drawing fire from atleast one member of the fire department who says it would result in more red tape and bureaucracy. However the proposed Fire or Public Safety Board concept has the support of several Arnolds Park city council members.
The concept was also presented Tuesday to the Okoboji city council.
It’s the concensus of both councils to continue dialogue on the formation of such a board and to check with insurance carriers to see what impact, if any, there would be on rates.
