Regional Girl Scouts Receive Federal Grant

November 22, 2014

(Fort Dodge)– Girl Scouts of Lakota Council have been awarded a 38-thousand dollar grant through the Girl Scouts of the USA and the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Karla Swanson of the Lakota Council in Fort Dodge tells KUOO news the money will help them reach out to girls ages nine to 13 that are facing unique challenges that prevent them from joining Girl Scouts. The grants will support those girls served by the Fort Dodge Municipal Housing Agency and Mid Iowa Regional Housing Authority; and the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Authority in Spencer.

Swanson says the grant will allow girls to enjoy an after-school and summer initiative involving them in hands-on activities that enhance science, math and techonology.

Swanson says they’re still in the process of planning programs in the Spencer and Storm Lake areas.
