(Spirit Lake)– Old man winter is finally making his presence known in the region.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the region until late tomorrow (Wednesday) night. The National Weather Service says parts of the region could get as much as a foot of snow.
Given the light, fluffy nature of the snow, it will be easily blown about by the 15-25 mile-per-hour winds, greatly reducing visibility in open areas.
That, combined with single digit temperatures and wind chills well below zero could be dangerous or even life-threatening for anyone that becomes stranded. For that reason, travel is highly discouraged. Numerous athletic and other events that had been scheduled this (Tues.) evening have been either canceled or postponed. If you’re unsure about a certain event, you should call ahead first before departing.
Conditions aren’t expected to improve until Thursday.
