Red Cross Issues Call For Donations

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Officials with the American Red Cross are putting out a plea for donations in the wake of the upcoming hurricane season.

Officials say the gulf oil spill, recent floods and severe weather right here at home and home fires have stretched the agency’s resources.

The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chapter is among the chapters nationwide putting out a call for donations right now.

Red Cross officials say the agency spends about $450 million annually responding to nearly 70,000 disasters across the country. And they say predictions by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of between three to seven major hurricanes for the upcoming season could stretch that even further.

Anyone interested in making a donation may do so by visiting the agency’s website at www.iglredcross.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS.
