(Spirit Lake)– The building boom continued in Dickinson county in 2001…and it showed no signs of slowing down after September 11th.
According to statistics from the Dickinson County Planning and Zoning office, 217 building permits were issued in the county in 2001…setting another record. Of those, Zoning Administrator David Kolhaase says 42 new homes were built with 169 improvements to existing homes; six six-plexes were built in the county along with a four-plex and a new motel unit that was constructed at Village West. The projects represented by the 217 building permits had a total combined estimated valuation of just under 20 million dollars.
Things were just as busy in the city of Spirit Lake in 2001 where 109 building permits were issued. Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says 50 of those were for houses. Dolphin says the overall number of building permits issued by Spirit Lake in 2001 was up slightly from 2000.
