(Arnolds Park)– The weather was less than ideal for this past Saturday’s University of Okoboji Oktoberfest but Morgan Strauss of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who still participated in the bike ride portion of the festivities…
“We still welcomed over 350 riders. I think we only had 22 people that didn’t pick up their packets, so that means the people were here and ready to enjoy what the Iowa Great Lakes has to offer and I think that’s kind of the whole point. Even though the events down at the park were canceled, I think just knowing that people were here and ready to celebrate the University Oktoberfest and support our local businesses really is rewarding in the end.”
And Strauss says they were still able to make a $1,500 contribution to the Dickinson County Trails Board to show the Chamber’s appreciation for them helping out with the event…
“So each year do a donation and this year we still were going to honor that. They do such a great job with keeping our trails beautiful and, you know, expanding those around to keep people coming and we just want to give them a big thank you and they also assist with putting out those bike signs for us, so that helps too and we just want to give them an extra thanks as well as all our other sponsors.”
The winner of an E-bike that was given away during the event courtesy of Smart Powersports in Okoboji was Cal DeJong.
