(Wallingford)– A pile of burning railroad ties made for a smoky fire Wednesday about a half-mile north of Wallingford.
Upon arriving, Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says firefighters found about 30 to 40 ties had already burned, with a few still on fire. Firefighters put out the burning railroad ties by spraying them with foam.
The fire is under investigation by the Union Pacific Railroad.
Train traffic through that area was temporarily suspended so railroad crews could inspect the tracks.
Wallingford firefighters were on the scene about a half hour.
