(Des Moines)– Three area communities have been selected as overnight stops on this year’s RAGBRAI…the “Register’s Great Bike Ride Across Iowa”.
Sheldon has been selected as an overnight stop for Sunday, July 24th. Riders will spend the next night, Monday, July 25th, in Estherville. They’ll spend the following night, Tuesday, July 26th, in Algona.
Organizers in each community expect about 15-thousand riders and support personnel.
The last time RAGBRAI went through Estherville was in 1982 and 1996.
Dusty Heland of the Estherville Chamber of Commerce says they’re looking for up to a thousand volunteers to serve on various committees overseeing things such as overnight accomodations, logistics, food, health care, security and entertainment. She says an estimated 25 percent of riders will be seeking overnight lodging in private homes.
Heland says organizers will start establishing committees in upcoming weeks.
