(Okoboji)– A public hearing on a proposed voluntary annexation of some land into the city of Okoboji will be held this coming Tuesday (July 20th).
The 13.3 acres of land located between Bay Rymn Conominiums and Pikes Point State Park has a taxable valuation of roughly 22.5 million dollars. Prospects of losing out on that tax base aren’t sitting well with the county, which currently has jurisdiction over that area. The Dickinson county board of supervisors have gone on record as being opposed to the proposed annexation and have adopted a resolution to that extent. The’ve also sent a letter expressing their concern to the City Development Board in Des Moines, which will have the final say as to whether or not the annexation will be allowed.
Because their boundaries are within two miles of the area that would be affected, the cities of Spirit Lake and Wahpeton must also approve of the proposal if it is to proceed. So far, neither city has acted on the matter.
Tuesday’s public hearing begins at 6:00 p.m. in the council chambers at the Okoboji City Hall.
