(Undated)– Like natural gas prices, propane prices are also expected to soar to record or near record levels this winter.
Jennifer Moehlman is an energy data analyst for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. She tells KUOO news their July propane price survey across the state showed the average price was 93 cents a gallon…the highest cost ever recorded in July.
Moehlman says homeowners should prepare now by insulating and weather-proofing. She also says this is a good time to be filling propane tanks.
Moehlman urges homeowners to keep a close eye on the level of their tanks. She says you should order more whenever the gauge reads 25 percent to avoid costly inspections of out-of-gas calls.
Moehlman expects the high prices to stick around until atleast next summer. She says it will depend a lot on how severe the upcoming winter is.
Moehlman says storage levels for propane and natural gas reached record or near record lows last winter and still are nowhere what they should be.
