Primghar Teen Seriously Injured In Car/Truck Collision

November 23, 2014

(Primghar)– Authorities say dense fog was a factor in a crash south of Primghar Thursday that seriously injured a teenager.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says a Mack truck driven by 40-year-old Kyle Millican of Tracy, Minnesota was southbound when it was struck by a 1991 Oldsmobile driven by 15-year-old Kyle Leng of Primghar.

Leng was transported by ambulance to Baum Harmon Hospital in Primghar with major incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Millican.

The mishap took place around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 59 and a county road four miles south of Primghar.

Deputies say Leng was westbound on the county road and attempted to stop at a stop sign…but skidded onto the highway…striking the semi tractor-trailer. They say the stop sign was shrouded in fog and that the road was wet…making it a little slick.

Authorities say the collision cut the tie-down straps on the flatbed and that a large steel aparatus and a propane-type tank came off the flatbed and slid down the highway…with the tank coming to rest in the middle of the road.

The car Leng was driving was thrown into the east ditch; the tractor/trailer came to rest on the west shoulder of the highway.

The mishap remains under investigation.
