Priest Who Served At Northwest Iowa Church Is Sentenced For Indecent Exposure

November 23, 2014

(Council Bluffs)– A priest who served previously at a northwest Iowa parish has been sentenced on an indecent exposure charge.

49-year-old Reverend Benjamin Jensen was given a deferred judgement of two years probation, 40 hours community service and treatment.

Jensen was found guilty last month.

The indecent exposure charge stems from an incident last fall at a men’s restroom at Lake Manawa State Park. It happened during a sting operation the Southwest Iowa Drug Task Force was conducting.

Jim Wharton of the Sioux City Diocese says Jensen is undergoing treatment and has been temporarily relieved of his pastoral duties.

Officials say no conviction will be entered as long as Jensen successfully completes probation.

Any indecent exposure conviction would make him eligible to be considered as a sex offender.
