(Spirit Lake)– The next installment in the History Lives series at the Dickinson County Museum in Spirit Lake is coming up next week. Museum Director Jean Ann Myhre says it will pay tribute to some well known competitive shooters. In addition to Fred Gilbert, Myhre says the program at 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 29th , will talk about Johnny Jahn and Bob Allen, also Spirit Lake natives. Both were inducted into the Trapshooting Hall of Fame…
“They were known in the community and worldwide. They were, actually, Bob Allen, I believe, and come and listen to make sure I’m correct, Bob Allen actually exceeded Fred Gilbert in some of his shooting percentages.”
Myhre says Tuesday’s program will be narrated by lakes area resident Rick Kalsow, an accomplished competitive shooter himself, who also is a shooting coach…
“We’re going to start at 7:00 pm and the evening runs from about 7:00 until 8:00. Rick will talk for 30, 40 minutes, then there’s questions and answering.”
Tuesday’s presentation is free, but donations are very much appreciated.
And as far as the Dickinson County Museum itself is concerned, Myhre says they remain busy as we head into the fall and winter months…
“We’re hosting schools, still, which is wonderful, and actually small groups. We have the capacity for 30 to 40 to sit down if people want to have a meeting. We can do a tour, book clubs, pretty much open other than our Tuesday, Wednesday hours. I’m a phone call away from booking a visit.”
