Power Concerns Continue

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Area utility companies are hoping for a quick warm-up to get rid of a thick coating of ice that continues to weigh down power lines and trees.

Officials with both Alliant Energy and Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative reported no widespread outages in the Iowa Great Lakes Area Friday morning. But power was still out early Friday in some of Alliant’s outlying service territories…in places like Everly, Wallingford, Dolliver, Fenton and Lonerock.

Alliant spokesman Dick Morrieum says additional crews are being brought in from central and southern Iowa to help with repairs.

Terry Bruns of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative says they may be forced to cut power some customers when ice starts to melt off the lines. He says the action of the ice falling off them could cause the lines to slap together again.
