Police Seek Public’s Assistance In Solving Business Scams

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Area law enforcement agencies are asking for the public’s help in solving a scamming operation that’s targeted some local businesses.

Spirit Lake police say a 40 to 50 year-old white male about six feet tall and weighing 250 to 300 pounds with black to brown grayish, curling hair has been entering some businesses and taking merchandise without paying for it. The man later takes the merchandise back to the store and demands a refund without a receipt.

Authorities believe he may be accompanied by a female.

It’s believed they’re driving a late model, medium-sized vehicle.

Authorities say the suspects were in the Spirit Lake area September 24th and that similar scams have been reported in Estherville and Spencer.

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.
