(Spirit Lake)– Officials with California-based Clipper Wind Power announced yesterday they’ll be putting up 29 wind turbines in western Dickinson county.
Peter Stricker, Director of Project Engineering for Clipper Wind Power, says they’ve worked out lease agreements with 15 to 20 landowners…most of them in Lakeville Township.
Stricker says the goal is to have the turbines up and operational before a federal tax credit on wind energy expires December 31st, 2003.
Clipper Wind Power will sell the power generated by the turbines to Alliant Energy. Clipper has a 15-year contract with the utility company with a five year renewal option.
The project has a total estimated cost of 50 million dollars. The 29 turbines will generate 43 and-a-half megawatts of electricity…enough to power 20-thousand homes.
