(Okoboji)– Police, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, a wrecker service and a diver spent part of the day Friday retrieving a pickup that was submerged in East Lake Okoboji.
Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the vehicle went into the lake accidentally at the boat ramp across from the Kum ‘n Go store in Okoboji. Owen says the driver was in the process of putting a boat in the lake when the incident took place around 10:30 a.m.
Owen wasn’t sure on the exact cause. He says it could have been due to brake failure, speed, or the fact that the ramps can be extremely slipperly this time of year due to build-ups of algae.
The pickup was totally submerged.
No one was hurt and officials were able to pull the vehicle out after about an hour and-a-half.
