Physician Accused Of Participating In Child Sex Ring Placed On House Arrest

November 22, 2014

(Sioux Falls, S.D.)– A Sioux Falls doctor accused of buying sex through a Tea, South Dakota-based online prostitution ring will be on house arrest as he awaits trial.

A judge Wednesday ordered 35-year-old Joshua Payer to wear an electronic monitoring device, check in twice a day with probation officers in Sioux Falls, turn over his passport and cease to practice medicine until the case is resolved.

Payer has pleaded not guilty in federal court to child sex trafficking charges and drug counts. He could face up to 80 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

He has been in jail since his Aug. 5th arrest at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. Payer was employed by a firm that contracts with hospitals to provide emergency room coverage.

A trial date hasn’t been set.
