(Luverne, Mn.)– An 18-year-old woman from Utica, Pennsylvania is in custody after allegedly hijacking a commercial bus and holding the driver at knifepoint in southwest Minnesota.
Jewell Anna Stands is being held in the Nobles county jail in Worthington on probable cause.
Authorities say they expect Stands to be formally charged with felony assault Tuesday in Rock County District Court in Luverne.
Rock County Sheriff Mike Winkels says the suspect allegedly used a four-bladed knife to hold the bus driver, 34-year-old Ron Peterson of Maple Grove, Minnesota, as he drove down U-S Highway 75 between Pipestone and Luverne. Authorities were made aware of the situation by a passenger who dialed 911 on a cell phone. They used stop spikes to stop the bus on Interstate 90 about a mile from the South Dakota border and two passengers subdued the woman.
