(Arnolds Park)– The Paralyzed Veterans of America will hold a national fishing tournament August 10th throug the 12th in the Iowa Great Lakes. Kenny Lloyd of the P-V-A tells KUOO news the tournament consists of an open/team competition for those who fish from a boat and a bank competition for those who fish from shore.
Anglers in the open/team competition are paired with able-bodied boat partners and fish as a team that Saturday. On Sunday, only the disabled anglers compete. The boat partners, or captains, serve as guides and boat operators. Although only the anglers with disabilities will fish on Sunday, the boat partners whose anglers place in the top ten will win prizes as well.
Anglers in the bank competition are paired with volunteers who assist them in whatever they can’t do themselves while fishing. Awards in that competition are based on the total weight for both days of fishing.
Anglers with special needs and volunteers from throughout the United States are expected to be in the Iowa Great Lakes for the tournament.
