Palo Alto County Voters Approve SILO Tax

November 22, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– Voters in Palo Alto county have overwhelmingly approved a School Infrastructure Local Option tax (or SILO) in a special election today (Tues.).

Unofficial results from the Palo Alto County Auditor’s Office show 864 voted in favor while 286 were opposed. The measure needed a simple majority to pass.

The tax will go in effect in July and remain in place for 10 years.

Palo Alto was one of the few remaining counties in northwest Iowa that had yet to pass the local option tax for schools.

The one cent tax will be used for school infrastructure needs.
