(Milford)– A standing room only crowd overflowed the Milford City Hall Monday evening as the council reviewed plans for an 80-slip marina developer Tory Nodland wants to build on the south side of Lower Gar Lake.
Residents living near the site of the proposed marina again expressed opposition, siting safety concerns and possible environmental impacts.
Jim Ladegaard, a Spirit Lake attorney representing Nodland, said Nodland has installed the infrastructure the city had requested for the project, and that there’s no legal grounds for the city to deny it.
But Don Van Ohrt, a resident of the area, said the council should very carefully think it over. He feels residents of the area were misrepresented when they purchased their properties. Van Ohrt says there were no such plans for a marina at that time.
After further discussion that went on for well over an hour, the council decided to hold off on taking any action. They want to take the comments under advisement and plan to meet with City Attorney David Stein. The issue will come up again at a future meeting.
