(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson Soil and Water Conservation District holds its annual Sixth Grade Outdoor Classroom this Thursday (Sept. 9th) at the Kettleson-Hogsback area.
Sixth grade students from Graettinger/Terril, Harris-Lake Park, Okoboji and Spirit Lake will participate.
Organizers say students will learn about soils, birds, waterfowl, falconry, boating and water safety, wetlands and wetland invertebrates, storm water management, retriever dogs and the Kettleson-Hogsback area itself.
Classes will be conducted by members of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Dickinson Soil and Water Conservation District, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Dickinson County Conservation Board, Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council; Iowa Lakeside Lab and the Dickinson County Animal Clinic.
Organizers say the goal of the program is to provide a unique learning experience and an increased understanding of the environment.
