Orleans To Spirit Lake: Clean-up Around Your Pumphouse

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Orleans seems to have gotten some satisfaction at Tuesday’s Spirit Lake city council meeting.

The Mayor and City Attorney reminded Spirit Lake officials of a promise made to them several years ago to put in a new sidewalk around the pumphouse at the north end of Hill Avenue. Orleans Mayor Carlton Mitchell says the city of Spirit Lake promised they’d spruce up the area in his city when they did major work on Hill Avenue. Tired of waiting, Mitchell brought Orleans City Attorney Don Hemphill along to threaten legal action to get it done.

However, that apparently won’t be needed. Mayor Eric Nielsen directed the Spirit Lake Public Works Department to install a sidewalk near the pumphouse as soon as possible.

When it comes to the large concrete barricades in front of the pumphouse, Public Works Director Todd Dolphin says some sort of barrier is needed to protect the building and equipment inside from frequent car crashes that occur at the T-intersection. A number of vehicles have smashed into the building over the years.
