(Cylinder)– A Cylinder man received only minor injuries today (Wed.) when a pickup he was driving collided with a train in Palo Alto county.
The sheriff’s office says 62-year-old Everett Vessey of Cylinder was northbound on 510th Avenue when the pickup he was driving was struck by an Iowa Central and Eastern train. Authorities say the train dragged the pickup some 560 feet before it dislodged. Vessey sustained only cuts and bruises. The 1993 GMC Somona pickup he was driving was totaled; the train sustained an estimated five thousand dollars in damage.
Authorities say Vessey couldn’t see the oncoming train because of dense fog.
The mishap took place around 6:15 a.m.
