Okoboji Underwater Search & Rescue Assists In Alton Search

November 22, 2014

(Alton)– The search for a young boy who fell into a creek while fishing with his family last weekend continues.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says four-year-old Breiton Ackerman has not been found since he fell into Willow Creek Sunday afternoon southeast of Alton. Rescuers searched until dark Sunday and resumed Monday. They’re back at the scene today (Tues.).

The Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue is assisting Sioux county authorities, along with 300 to 400 volunteers.

The area where the boy fell into the river was dug up with heavy equipment Monday and three dams were built upstream to help stop the water flow.

The creek flows into the Floyd River north of LeMars and that river connects to the Missouri River near Sioux City.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents who live along the creek or the rivers to check for any sign of the child.
