Okoboji Teacher Receives President Commendation

November 22, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– A very prestigious honor for an Okoboji High School math teacher.

Linda Seeger is one of 100 seventh through twelfth grade teachers to receive the 2005 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching…the nation’s highest honor for teaching in those fields.

Seeger is the only mathematics winner from Iowa.

In a citation given to Seeger, President George Bush commended her for “embodying excellence in teaching, for devotion to the learning needs of the students, and for upholding the high standards that exemplify American education at its finest”.

Seeger receives a 10-thousand dollar grant from the National Science Foundation along with an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Seeger is currently in the nation’s capital to receive the award. She’ll be there until Friday.

Established by congress in 1983, the annual presidential awards program identifies highly qualified mathematics and science teachers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U-S Territories and the U-S Department of Defense schools.
