Okoboji School Board Delays Plans For Gym

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– Faced with an uncertain financial future, the Okoboji School Board last night decided to delay plans to build an additional gymnasium. Superintendent Quentin Reifenrath says declining enrollment and the threat of deeper budget cuts from the state are adding to the district’s financial concerns.

While the new gym has been dropped for now, plans to build additional classrooms at the elementary and for a new locker room and weight room at the high school are still progressing.

After reviewing budget figures, it was determined the district will have four million dollars to work with. But one board member said he’d oppose any plans that come in around 3.7 million dollars or higher.

The school board directed the district’s architect to draw up some design options and report back with estimated costs.
