(Milford)– Construction of an addition onto the Okoboji Elementary School in Milford is a step closer to reality.
Meeting this (Wednesday) morning in special session, the Okoboji School Board awarded a bid on the project to Larsen Contracting of Lake Mills, Iowa in the amount of $2,725,000…slightly over the original estimate.
The project includes the addition of 10 classrooms along with the conversion of a heating system from steam to hot water.
The project has a completion date of May 17th, 2011, but Superintendent Bob Miller says that will be highly dependent on the weather.
Miller says a growth in enrollment in Kindergarten and First grade resulted in the need for additional classrooms.
The project is being financed through a revenue bond being taken out against the Okoboji School District’s share of proceeds from the statewide School Infrastructure Local Option (SILO) sales tax.
