(Okoboji)– The city of Okoboji wants nothing to do with a proposal to implement a countywide building code similar to what’s being proposed by the city of Spirit Lake.
The Okoboji City Council voted unanimously earlier this week NOT to participate in a committee of city council and board of supervisor representatives looking into adopting a unified code.
The building code issue has sparked a lot of controversy recently. Opponents say what’s being proposed by the city of Spirit Lake is excessive; that it would be costly and that it would amount to more bureaucracy. Proponents say the concerns are being blown out of proportion.
