(Okoboji)– Some big changes for garbage and recycling services in Okoboji.
It’s the result of the city council voting recently for the city to get out of the garbage collection business. They’ve entered into a contract for the service with Waste Management, Incorporated, which is effective June 1st.
Margo Underwood, a consultant for Waste Management, says normal garbage and recycling pickup will be Mondays and Thursdays. The schedule will be different though, this coming week due to the Memorial Day Holiday on Monday. As a result, garbage and recycling will be picked up on Tuesday and Friday for this coming week ONLY.
Underwood says Okoboji residents will also have the option of purchasing a cart for their refuse. Three different sizes are available. The carts can be seen at Okoboji city hall.
Letters and informational brochures outlining the changes will be mailed to Okoboji residents next week.
