Okoboji Rejects Road Maintenance Agreement With County

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji city council Thursday rejected a road maintenance agreement proposed by the county for roads where the city and county share jurisdiction.

In exchange for receiving a payment from the county, the city would be responsible for all maintenance aspects of the roads, including snow plowing, patching, re-surfacing, tree and brush cutting, signage, striping and so on. But Okoboji council members are concerned the maintenance costs will surpass what it gets from the county…with the added expense falling on the city.

The council voted unanimously to reject the proposed agreement. They indicated they would be in favor of an agreement for snow removal ONLY…similar to what the county has proposed in the past.

City Administrator Dennis Daly said he’ll contact the county about the matter.
