(Okoboji)– A faulty motor on some ventilation equipment resulted in the evacuation of an Okoboji motel this (Wed.) morning.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Steve Dulin tells KUOO news firefighters were called to the AmericInn Motel on highway 71 north around 8:35 a.m.
Dulin says a motor in a ventilation system in the pool area got hot, sending smoke into a portion of the motel. That, in turn, activated smoke alarms.
The motel was evacuated as a precaution while firefighters cut power to the ventilator and the smoke was cleared. Patrons were allowed to return a few minutes later.
Dulin says damage was limited to the ventilator motor.
No injuries were reported.
The Arnolds Park/Okoboji fire department was on the scene about a half hour.
