(Okoboji)– Plans by the city of Okoboji to build a new facility for the city’s streets department, police and fire departments are being pushed back as the result of new developments in a proposed land swap.
The city council Tuesday was to act on a resolution between the city and Mau Marine for a land exchange. In return for the city getting ownership of 1.7 acres of land on Depot Street west of Tweeter’s, Mau Marine would take title to land on which the police department and maintenance building are currently located. The proposal called for Mau Marine to pay the city 150-thousand dollars, based on appraisals.
At that point, two other parties came forward Tuesday with offers. Milford Attorney Bill Sackett offered to pay the city 200-thousand dollars for its property in exchange for two acres of land he owns on County Home Road near Kenue Park. And Butch Parks offered a couple of parcels–one behind C & N Sales on Highway 71; the other is near McDonalds. Parks didn’t mention a price he’d be willing to pay for the exchange.
A committee that’s been looking at property options was directed to meet again in the near future to look at the new options and obtain appraisals if any of the other sites seem feasible. June 2nd was set as the deadline for interested property owners to submit offers to the city.
