(Okoboji)– Okoboji residents will soon be paying more to get rid of their trash.
The city council Tuesday adopted a resolution increasing the fees the city charges for garbage bags. Under the new structure, the cost of large bags will go up from 50 to 55 cents a bag with the smaller bags increasing from 35 to 40 cents a bag.
City Administrator Dennis Daly says the increase is the result of a rate hike from the city’s trash hauler, Waste Management.
Daly isn’t sure exactly when the new rates will be put in place. He says it will be whenever the city receives its next shipment of bags.
Daly says this is the first time the cost of bags has been increased since they went to a city bag system five or six years ago.
