(Okoboji)– A lakes area city council is making its feelings known on the gambling issue.
Meeting in special session Wednesday, the council unanimously adopted a resolution opposing gaming. Mayor Bob Schneider says council members felt it was important to take a stance.
The resolution reads:
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Okoboji, Iowa opposes the development of any gambling initiatives within Dickinson county.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Okoboji, Iowa believes gambling to be counterproductive to the family values offered by the City of Okoboji.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Okoboji, Iowa recognizes and will respect the will of the voters if such development is approved and act accordingly since local control is important and necessary.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Okoboji, Iowa, urges all citizens to become educated on this issue.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Okoboji expresses it’s concerns regarding gambling within Dickinson County, Iowa.
