Ohio Woman Seriously Injured After Jumping Into West Okoboji

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– An Ohio woman was seriously injured late Tuesday night in an incident on West Lake Okoboji.

Gary Owen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 29-year-old Jamie Ranieria of Zanesville, Ohio was on board a boat owned and operated by 56-year-old Bill Eich of Milford when she jumped into the lake.

Ranieria was found floating unconscious in the water a short time later. She was brought ashore and transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare with spinal injuries. She was then life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital. There’s no word on her condition.

Owen says the incident took place in Miller’s Bay just off of Lakeside Lab. Authorities were called to the scene around 11:45 p.m.

Owen says they still don’t know why Ranieria jumped off the boat.

Ranieria’s husband, Andrew, was also in the boat.
