(Spirit Lake)– A car was completely destroyed by fire Friday evening in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake police say the driver was travelling in the area of 23rd street and Keokuk Avenue when he noticed smoke coming into the passenger compartment. The driver pulled into the nearby Dickinson County Trailhead. The vehicle became totally engulfed in flames shortly after the driver and a passenger got out.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire, but not before it completely destroyed the Chevrolet Beretta.
No injuries were reported.
Spirit Lake firefighters were called to the scene around 10:15 p.m. They were there about a half-hour.
The cause of the fire isn’t certain. Spirit Lake policeman Chris Kielman says based on what the driver told him, it’s believed to have started in the engine compartment.
