(Primghar)– O’Brien County Sheriff Mike Anderson is warning northwest Iowans about a scam that names him and his department.
Anderson says the perpetrator has been calling area residents identifying himself as the O’Brien County Sheriff soliciting money to purchase bullet proof vests for the department.
Anderson says anyone who gets such a call should hang up immediately.
He says his department does not solicit funds by phone…nor does the Iowa State Sheriff’s and Deputies Association. Anderson says they only use the U-S postal system for fundraising efforts.
Residents living in a county other than O’Brien county receiving similar calls should contact their local sheriff to see if the call is legitimate.
